Pearwood is softer than both box and lemonwood, but still allows for fine cutting. Pear is usually pale pink in colour and is especially good for larger blocks where cost is a factor. These blocks are type high and can be used alongside type in a printing press.
Available in sizes 11 x 9cm (4.5x3.5in) and 6 x 9cm (2.5x3.5in)
Note: Endgrain wood is highly susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity and heat can cause the blocks to crack. It is recommended to store woodblocks on their edge (like books on a shelf) with space in between and never flat. Ideally, engraving blocks are kept at a constant, moderate temperature.
